Our mission
Most adults in the UK don't have a will. The Office for National Statistics consistently reports that around 60% of UK adults die intestate — not because they don't want a will, but because writing one feels expensive, slow and intimidating. ClearLegacy exists to remove all three barriers.
We've built a fully automated will-writing service that produces a legally valid will under the Wills Act 1837 in about 15 minutes of questionnaire and delivers it within 24 hours. Every will is checked by our automated review before it leaves us. The price is fixed: £69 for a single will, £99 for a pair of mirror wills.
What ClearLegacy is
- UK-focused. Wills are drafted to the Wills Act 1837, the statute governing wills in England and Wales. Customers in Scotland or Northern Ireland should use a service local to those jurisdictions.
- Fully automated. No phone calls, no appointments, no offices. You answer an online questionnaire; our system drafts the will; an automated review checks it.
- Fixed price. £69 single, £99 mirror. No subscriptions. No upsells. One free amendment in the first 12 months.
- Fast. Most wills are emailed back within 24 hours of payment and questionnaire completion.
- Reviewed. Every draft passes a structured automated check. Every draft passes through our automated review pipeline before delivery.
What ClearLegacy is not
- We are not a solicitors' firm. Will-writing is not a reserved legal activity in England and Wales, so it does not require SRA regulation — but we don't pretend otherwise.
- We do not provide face-to-face appointments or phone consultations as part of the standard service. The product is the will, not the meeting.
- We don't write wills for extremely complex estates — trusts requiring bespoke drafting, foreign property structures, or business succession schemes are better handled by a specialist solicitor. Our questionnaire flags these cases.
- We are not a DIY kit. A WHSmith kit is around £25 and is uncomplemented by professional review. We are an order of magnitude safer than a DIY kit and a fraction of the cost of a solicitor.

How we keep the price at £69
The honest answer is automation. A traditional will-writing service or solicitor spends most of their time on the call, the appointment, the office overhead, the partner's hourly rate. We've moved everything that can be automated — the data capture, the draft generation, the document assembly, the secure delivery — into software. What's left is the bit that matters: the structured review — automated rules written and maintained by estate-planning specialists.
The result is that the cost of a will at ClearLegacy is roughly the cost of the reviewer's time, plus a small share of platform overhead. A solicitor charging £350 for the same will is not necessarily producing a better will — they are charging for the appointment, the office, and the partner's time.
Legal validity
A will's legal validity in England and Wales depends on three things: the testator (you) being over 18 and of sound mind; the will being signed in the presence of two independent witnesses; and the wording complying with the Wills Act 1837. None of those are price-dependent. A £69 will properly drafted and signed is legally indistinguishable from a £700 solicitor's will properly drafted and signed.
Trust and review
Every will goes through a structured review before release. The review checks the residuary clause, the executor appointment, the substitution clauses, the guardianship clause (if any), and the property handling. We do not release a will that has not been reviewed.
