What ClearLegacy is — and what it isn’t
ClearLegacy is an online will-writing service: a structured questionnaire drafts your will, an automated review checks it against the Wills Act 1837 requirements, and the finished PDF is emailed within 24 hours (£69 single, £99 mirror — fixed, no subscriptions).
It is not a law firm. Will-writing is not a reserved legal activity in England and Wales, so no online will service — ClearLegacy, Farewill, Octopus Legacy or any other — is SRA-regulated for will drafting. That is not a loophole; it is how the law works, because validity depends on the document and its execution, not on who drafted it. For complex estates (trusts, business assets, foreign property, contested family situations) we say plainly: use a solicitor.
The strongest protection: you hold the original
A point worth understanding about any online will service — once your will is printed, signed and witnessed, the paper document is the legal instrument. It does not depend on ClearLegacy existing, renewing, or storing anything. If we vanished tomorrow, your signed will would remain exactly as valid. This is fundamentally different from subscription products that stop working when the company does.
Still cautious? Sensible. Do this:
Check the Companies House record, read our reviews page, compare us honestly against alternatives in our best online will comparison (we tell you when Farewill or a solicitor is the better fit), and email [email protected] with any question before paying — a real person answers.
